With this success and satisfactory performance, Tata Steel placed contract for additional Rs 20 million for the remaining two Finishing Stands, earlier this year.

The scope of the project involved engineering, supply, installation and commissioning of 4000 Amp Thyrister Power Modules (TPM). These TPMs had to be compatible with existing DDR controllers supplied by AEG and ALSTOM make PEC controllers in the future.

The team handling the project worked on very stringent deadlines. Infact, the commissioning of each Thyristor Power Module was completed well before the stipulated 36 hours during the regular monthly shutdown so as to minimize production losses.

The Tata Steel - Hot Strip Mill project is of strategic significance for Nelco as it reinforces our expertise and core competency in DC Drives. This installation has already opened the door for Nelco to partner with a multinational company for similar projects in India and abroad.
